A well-established education organisation in Central London is seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure and Operations Lead to take ownership of the reliability, security and day to day operation of its IT estate.
This is a senior hands-on technical role, ideal for someone with strong infrastructure, network and Microsoft cloud experience who enjoys being close to technology while ensuring stable and high-quality service delivery across a busy environment.
Location Central London
Salary £50,000 to £60,000 plus excellent benefits.

Role purpose
The IT Infrastructure and Operations Lead will act as the technical authority for infrastructure and operational support, ensuring high availability of IT services that support teaching, learning and business operations. The role focuses on networks, Wi-Fi, cloud platforms, endpoint devices and classroom technology, alongside incident management and continuous service improvement.
Key responsibilities
Infrastructure and systems management
• Maintain and monitor network infrastructure including switches, WiFi, VLANs and security controls
• Support and maintain Azure based servers, virtualised environments and Windows and macOS systems
• Ensure effective monitoring, alerting and performance reporting across critical systems
• Manage backup, disaster recovery, patching and routine maintenance schedules
• Support firewall configuration and secure network access where required
Operational support and incident management
• Lead on advanced troubleshooting of infrastructure and systems related issues
• Manage incidents and problems to ensure prompt resolution and minimise repeat issues
• Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex or high impact problems
• Support the deployment and lifecycle management of devices including Windows, macOS, iPads and Chromebooks
Service delivery and operational readiness
• Ensure reliable operation of classroom technology, exams, assemblies and events
• Liaise with third party suppliers and partners on infrastructure services and projects
• Maintain accurate asset registers, system documentation and network diagrams
• Uphold IT security standards, GDPR compliance and safeguarding requirements
Documentation and continuous improvement
• Maintain clear and up to date technical documentation and procedures
• Identify risks, service trends and opportunities for improvement
• Support infrastructure upgrades and the introduction of new systems into live operation
Collaboration and training
• Work closely with teaching, business and operational teams to meet technical needs
• Provide coaching, onboarding and technical training to staff and users as required
Skills and experience
Essential
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 including Entra, Exchange, SharePoint, Intune and Azure
• Solid background in IT operations, infrastructure and service delivery
• Strong networking knowledge including switching, WiFi and VLANs
• Experience supporting Windows and macOS environments
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work calmly under pressure and manage competing priorities
Desirable
• Experience working in an education environment
• Knowledge of classroom AV technologies
• Firewall configuration experience
• ITIL Foundation or similar qualification
