A leading independent school is seeking an experienced 3rd Line Systems Engineer to support and develop a secure, resilient IT infrastructure that underpins teaching, learning and daily operations across the school.

£46,000–£52,000 | Cambridgeshire | Permanent

Working closely with the Network Manager and wider IT team, the 3rd Line Systems Engineer will play a key role in maintaining enterprise networking, virtualised server environments and Microsoft 365 services while supporting cybersecurity initiatives and infrastructure improvements. This is a hands-on senior technical role where you will contribute to infrastructure projects, act as an escalation point for complex issues and help ensure the reliability and security of the school’s systems.

This role would suit a technically strong Network Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer or experienced School Network Manager who enjoys working in a collaborative environment with modern cloud and infrastructure platforms.

Main Responsibilities

• Maintain and optimise enterprise network infrastructure including switches, firewalls, wireless networks and VPN connectivity
• Configure and manage core network services such as DNS, DHCP, VLANs and routing
• Support and maintain virtualised server environments including VMware
  Manage Active Directory, Group Policy and authentication services
• Administer Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive
• Support identity and access management through Azure AD
• Monitor and maintain network security including firewalls, endpoint protection and patching
• Assist with infrastructure upgrades, migrations and system improvements
• Work with vendors and partners to deliver infrastructure projects
• Act as an escalation point for complex infrastructure and networking issues
• Provide 3rd line support for staff and student systems
• Maintain accurate documentation of network architecture, configurations and procedures

Skills / Experience Required

• Strong experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure
• Experience with switches, firewalls, wireless networks and WAN/LAN environments
• Microsoft 365 administration experience
• Strong Active Directory and Group Policy experience
  Experience with VMware or similar virtualisation platforms
• Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure and networking systems
• Good understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure infrastructure design
