The Role
As an IT Technician, you will be a key member of a busy and collaborative IT Services team, providing high-quality technical support across a large, multi-site user base. You will deliver first and second line support, assist with device management programmes, contribute to infrastructure projects, and help ensure technology is reliable, secure and fit for purpose.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys troubleshooting, supporting non-technical users, and working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver first-line IT support to staff, pupils and visitors, ensuring a professional and customer-focused service
- Log, manage and resolve support tickets using a helpdesk system, maintaining clear communication throughout
- Provide hardware and software support for Windows and Apple devices, printers, telephony and network equipment
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on a wide range of end-user devices
- Support Microsoft 365 services including Teams, SharePoint, Intune and email
- Escalate complex issues appropriately while taking ownership of incidents through to resolution
- Assist with the deployment, provisioning and management of user devices as part of a 1:1 device scheme
- Maintain accurate IT asset records and documentation
- Support IT projects including system upgrades, new hardware installations and service improvements
- Work closely with senior IT colleagues to identify recurring issues and recommend enhancements
- Provide mentoring and guidance to junior IT team members where required
- Ensure compliance with data protection, confidentiality and IT health & safety requirements
- Support school-wide events and activities where technology input is required
Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an IT Technician, Helpdesk or 1st/2nd Line Support role
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical users
- Experience working in a structured, process-driven IT environment
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage competing priorities
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
Technical Experience (desirable):
- Microsoft Active Directory & Windows Server environments
- Microsoft 365, Intune, SharePoint, Teams & Teams Telephony
- Windows 11 support
- Apple device management (Jamf, Apple School Manager)
- Networking fundamentals (IP addressing, VLANs, wireless)
- Virtualisation and backup concepts
- Cyber security and firewall/filtering tools
- ITSM systems (e.g. Halo or similar)
Experience within the education sector is advantageous but not essential.
