We are working with a prestigious educational institution seeking an experienced and proactive Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer to join their in-house team. You’ll be responsible for managing and developing the wired and wireless network infrastructure, ensuring it is secure, reliable, and scalable to meet the evolving needs of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and manage a high-performance network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Monitor, optimise, and ensure the security and reliability of the school’s IT network.
- Configure and manage Palo Alto firewalls in line with best practice, including monitoring and reporting.
- Conduct regular network audits and proactively address risks or inefficiencies.
- Act as the senior escalation point for network-related issues, providing advanced technical support.
- Mentor junior IT staff, supporting knowledge sharing and best practice.
- Administer core systems including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure, DNS, DHCP, and Radius/NPS.
- Lead on technical documentation, ensuring all network diagrams and procedures are current.
- Collaborate with the Head of IT (Strategy & Projects) to contribute to IT strategy and deliver infrastructure projects.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies and cyber security trends to enhance infrastructure.
Person Specification:
- Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent certifications (e.g. CCNA, CCNP).
- Proven experience managing enterprise-level wired and wireless network environments.
- Strong knowledge of firewall technologies, particularly Palo Alto.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, Windows Server, and PowerShell scripting.
- In-depth understanding of network protocols and services including DNS, DHCP, and Radius/NPS.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to document and present technical information clearly.
- Experience within the education sector is desirable but not essential.
- Commitment to safeguarding and willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
