GreatFind Recruitment is supporting a leading independent school in the search for an experienced Head of Human Resources to lead and develop a high quality, strategic and operational HR function.

Location: North London / Hertfordshire
Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 per annum
Contract: Full time, all year round

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior HR professional who can combine strategic leadership with hands on operational delivery. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head and Senior Leadership Team, acting as a trusted advisor on people, culture, workforce planning, employee relations, compliance and organisational development.

The role would suit an experienced Head of Human Resources, Senior HR Manager, HR Business Partner or HR Manager looking to take ownership of a broad and influential HR function within a values led education environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive HR strategy aligned with the school’s priorities and future plans
• Act as a strategic HR partner to senior leaders, providing expert advice on workforce planning, organisational design and change initiatives
• Oversee HR policies, procedures and processes across the full employee lifecycle
• Ensure compliance with UK employment law, safeguarding requirements and relevant regulatory frameworks
• Lead recruitment and retention strategies, ensuring robust safeguarding and safer recruitment processes
• Manage complex employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence and restructuring cases
• Provide coaching and guidance to senior leaders and managers on people matters
• Lead workforce planning, organisational development and employee engagement initiatives
• Use HR data, reporting and insight to support strategic decision making
• Champion equality, diversity and inclusion across the organisation
• Lead, support and develop the HR team, building a collaborative and professional HR service

Skills and Experience Required

• Significant senior HR leadership experience across both strategic and operational HR
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
• Experience managing complex employee relations casework
• Proven experience in workforce planning, organisational change and policy development
• Experience advising senior leaders and contributing to wider organisational strategy
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior level
• Confident using HR systems, workforce data and reporting to provide insight
• Excellent communication, organisation and problem solving skills
• High levels of discretion, professionalism and emotional intelligence
• Experience within education, independent schools, charities or values led organisations would be highly advantageous
