An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead IT Engineer to join a growing managed services provider supporting a school or Trust site in Stevenage.
This is a great role for someone with strong 1st and 2nd line support experience who is confident acting as the senior onsite technical contact. You will provide hands on IT support, support users across the school, mentor junior technicians and help deliver small onsite projects and technical improvements.
The role would suit someone who has worked in a school, academy, college or managed service environment and enjoys being the trusted onsite IT person.
About the role
As the onsite IT lead, you will provide technical support across a broad range of systems, including desktops, laptops, classroom AV, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, networking, Wi Fi, switches, backups and hardware.
You will be responsible for triaging tickets, resolving technical issues, keeping users updated and escalating more complex matters where needed. You will also maintain accurate IT documentation, asset records, change records and support the delivery of approved onsite projects.
You will work closely with senior technical colleagues and the wider service team, while also supporting Level 1 technicians and apprentices on site.
Key responsibilities
- Provide 1st and 2nd line onsite technical support, with exposure to initial 3rd line tasks
- Act as the senior technical point of contact for school staff
- Triage tickets and manage onsite support activity
- Support classroom AV, hardware, desktops, laptops and mobile devices
- Troubleshoot network issues including switches, cabling, VLANs and Wi Fi
- Administer Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams and user accounts
- Support Active Directory, Group Policy and Windows Server environments
- Maintain accurate asset registers, documentation and change records
- Assist with imaging, deployment and device management
- Lead small onsite projects and approved changes
- Mentor junior technicians and apprentices
- Liaise with third party providers where required
About you
You will be a confident and proactive IT support professional with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a busy school environment.
You will ideally have experience across:
- Windows Server, Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Microsoft 365 administration
- Active Directory and Group Policy
- Networking, switches, VLANs and Wi Fi troubleshooting
- Backup and restore tools such as Veeam or similar
- Hardware troubleshooting and component level repair
- Imaging and deployment tools such as Intune, SCCM or MDT
- Service desk systems and SLA driven support
- Education IT environments, safeguarding systems or school based IT support
Experience with Intune, MDM, Hyper V, VMware, Apple device management, internet filtering or ITIL would be advantageous, although not essential.
Additional information
This is a full time onsite role based at a school or Trust site in Stevenage. You may occasionally be required to travel to other client sites.
An enhanced DBS check will be required, along with a commitment to safeguarding and working professionally within an education setting.
