An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Network and Infrastructure Engineer to join a leading independent education organisation with a modern enterprise grade infrastructure. This is a newly created role reflecting continued investment in technology and digital resilience.

The Role

Reporting into the Network Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining and developing core IT infrastructure services, acting as a senior escalation point and supporting a range of infrastructure and cyber security projects.

This position combines hands on engineering, technical leadership, and project delivery within a collaborative and well supported IT team.

Key Responsibilities

Network Infrastructure Management
• Maintain monitor and optimise LAN WAN VPN firewall and wireless environments
• Configure and support DNS DHCP VLANs routing and content filtering
• Ensure high availability resilience and performance across multiple sites
• Contribute to long term network strategy and design

Server Virtualisation and Storage
• Support VMware or Hyper V virtualised server environments
• Manage Active Directory Group Policy file services and authentication systems
• Assist with SAN storage solutions and data availability

Microsoft 365 Azure and Cloud Services
• Administer Exchange Online Teams SharePoint OneDrive and Azure AD
• Support SharePoint site management permissions and collaboration tools
• Oversee secure identity and access management including conditional access
• Provide 3rd line support for cloud based systems and users

Cyber Security and Compliance
• Implement and maintain network security controls including intrusion prevention and encryption
• Monitor vulnerabilities unusual activity and emerging threats
• Support compliance aligned with DfE cyber security standards
• Deliver patching audits and risk management activities

Monitoring Incident Response and Troubleshooting
• Proactively identify performance capacity and security issues using monitoring tools
• Act as escalation point for complex infrastructure faults
• Lead root cause analysis and implement preventative improvements

Project Delivery and Infrastructure Development
• Plan and deliver upgrades migrations and new deployments
• Coordinate with vendors contractors and managed service providers
• Contribute to wider digital transformation initiatives

Documentation and Business Continuity
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and network architecture records
• Support disaster recovery planning and continuity testing

Person Specification

Essential Experience
• Strong enterprise networking experience including firewalls VPNs switches and wireless
• Proven expertise in DNS DHCP VLAN routing and network optimisation
• Experience supporting VMware and Microsoft server environments
• Strong Microsoft 365 and Azure AD administration skills
• Solid understanding of cyber security controls and best practice
• Ability to resolve complex 3rd line infrastructure issues

Desirable
• SAN or enterprise storage exposure
• Experience within education or regulated environments
• Vendor and MSP management experience

Qualifications

Essential
• CCNA or CompTIA Network Plus or equivalent
• Microsoft 365 or Azure certification such as AZ 104
• Strong VMware experience
