IT Support Engineer

£32,000–£35,000 | Surrey | Permanent

A leading independent school set within stunning Surrey parkland is looking for a capable and service-driven IT Support Engineer to join its IT team supporting a large and well-invested technology environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a strong IT Support Engineer with 1st/2nd line experience to step into a more advanced role, working across a broad range of technologies including Microsoft 365, user devices and classroom systems. The environment is structured, well-resourced and highly user-facing, making it ideal for someone who enjoys delivering high-quality support while continuing to develop technically.

As an IT Support Engineer, you will support around 1,500 users, taking ownership of support requests, working closely with senior engineers, and contributing to ongoing IT improvements across the school. This role offers real exposure beyond pure helpdesk support, including device management, infrastructure interaction and project involvement.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality first and second line IT support to staff, students and parents
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software and user issues across Windows devices and Microsoft 365
  • Support and manage user devices including pupil laptops and staff equipment
  • Assist with Microsoft 365 administration and user account management
  • Support classroom technologies including AV and teaching systems
  • Log, track and manage support tickets ensuring clear documentation and communication
  • Assist with device deployment, imaging and system upgrades
  • Support basic networking and infrastructure issues where required
  • Work closely with the wider IT team on system improvements and ongoing projects
  • Always deliver a professional and user-focused support experience

 

Skills / Experience Required

  • Experience working in a 1st or 2nd line IT support role
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Windows devices and user environments
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and user account management
  • Understanding of Active Directory and basic networking concepts
  • Experience supporting end-user devices including laptops and peripherals
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach
  • Ability to work in a structured, fast-paced environment
  • Experience within an education environment is required
