IT Network Manager | 6 Month FTC | Surrey | £40,000 to £50,000 FTE

A well established independent school is seeking an experienced IT Network Manager to lead and oversee its ICT environment during an important strategic review period.

This six month fixed term contract offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of a school’s technology environment while shaping its future direction. Alongside managing day to day ICT operations, you will conduct a strategic feasibility study into the potential outsourcing of IT services and present recommendations to the governing body.

This role offers the chance to work in a varied and impactful environment supporting teaching, learning and administration while helping define the long term ICT strategy of the school.

The Opportunity

The IT Network Manager will be responsible for the management, security and development of the school’s ICT infrastructure and services.

A key part of the role will involve reviewing the current ICT provision and carrying out a feasibility study into outsourcing IT services. This will include evaluating providers, analysing the impact on the school and presenting recommendations to the governing body.

Alongside the strategic element, you will ensure all ICT services continue to operate effectively and support the school community.

Key Responsibilities

ICT Infrastructure Management

• Manage the school network including servers, switches, WiFi and workstations
• Maintain cloud services including Office 365 environments
• Ensure backup and disaster recovery procedures are in place and tested
• Maintain the ICT asset inventory

Support and Service Delivery

• Provide technical support to staff, students and parents
• Ensure the ICT support service operates smoothly across the school
• Support the use of technology within teaching and learning
• Provide training and guidance to staff on ICT systems and tools

Security and Compliance

• Manage cyber security tools including firewall, anti virus and email protection
• Support the development of data protection and e safety policies
• Adopt responsibility aligned with Data Protection Officer activities

Strategic ICT Development

• Conduct a feasibility study into outsourcing IT services
• Engage with external providers and evaluate potential solutions
• Identify future infrastructure improvements and technology investment
• Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and governors

Vendor and Budget Management

• Manage relationships with third party ICT suppliers
• Oversee ICT operational and capital expenditure budgets
• Obtain quotes and ensure value for money procurement

Additional Technology Support

• Manage school audio visual systems including classroom displays and event technology
• Support school events where technical equipment is required

About You

We are looking for an experienced IT professional who is comfortable managing both operational ICT support and strategic technology planning.

You will likely have experience working in a school or education environment and be confident supporting a broad range of infrastructure technologies.

Key experience may include

• Managing school ICT networks and infrastructure
• Supporting Microsoft 365 and device management platforms
• Network technologies including switches, WiFi and servers
• Supporting school MIS systems
• Cyber security and data protection best practice
• Audio visual systems used in education environments
• Vendor management and supplier engagement

You will also have strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with senior leadership and non technical stakeholders.
