Description
We are looking for an Analytics Engineer to join our global data team. In this role, you will act as a technical pillar within the business applications function, sitting at the intersection of Data Engineering and Data Analysis, with a strong focus on shaping how data is served across the organisation.
You will be responsible for transforming raw data from a diverse international portfolio of businesses and services into clean, well documented and performant data models within BigQuery, enabling teams across multiple regions to make informed, data driven decisions.
The ideal candidate thrives on building the engine of a modern data platform, ensuring that the BigQuery environment is organised, transformations are robust, and stakeholders have reliable access to high quality data in a fast paced international environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Data Transformation & Modelling
- Design, develop and maintain scalable data models using BigQuery and dbt (Data Build Tool).
- Apply software engineering best practices to data transformation, including version control (Git), modularity and testing.
- Optimise BigQuery performance and costs through partitioning, clustering and efficient materialised views.
- Architect and optimise data structures for AI and Machine Learning use cases, ensuring high quality feature engineering and readiness for LLM based applications.
- Data Governance & Quality
- Implement rigorous data quality testing and monitoring to ensure the accuracy and reliability of downstream reporting.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for data models through dbt Docs or similar tooling, ensuring consistency of definitions across the organisation.
- Establish and enforce data naming conventions and architecture standards within the BigQuery environment.
Requirements & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Expert level BigQuery SQL with a strong understanding of Google BigQuery syntax.
- Extensive experience building, testing and deploying dbt projects within BigQuery environments.
- Strong knowledge of cloud data warehousing and BigQuery architecture, including storage, slots and billing models.
- Proficiency with Git and CI/CD workflows for data engineering.
Experience & Soft Skills
- 5+ years' experience in Analytics Engineering or a similar quantitative role focused on large scale BigQuery environments.
- Product mindset with the ability to build data products that support a broad international user base.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non technical stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy, governance and cost efficiency.
- Availability to travel occasionally when required.
